Words cannot do this album enough justice

With their fourth studio release, Trivium took what they felt they did best on their previous albums, and put it all together into one style, and took a step in the right direction, with particularly the return of Heafy's screaming vocal lines, however this is not simply an Ascendancy: Take Two, development is shown and the songs are actually pretty good.
From start to finish listeners can enjoy a quality metal effort from Trivium. It's Trivium but with more experience and better song-writing styles. This album is a great example of Trivium's previous efforts as they give the listeners with a hard-hitting, fast-paced well executed riffs and strong lyrics that at times are catchy.
Shoguns thrash-like metal sound attracts many listeners, especially those who have previously listened to older metal groups such as Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden and Pantera displaying their major influences on a single album.
Overall, Shogun is the perfect album for someone who wants a mix of beauty and intensity. It is a staple in the evolution of the metal genre itself and is one of their better albums and a better display of their creative talents
The recommended tracks to listen to are
Down From The Sky
Into The Mouth Of Hell We March
Throes Of Perdition
Like Callisto To A Star In Heaven

I have listened to all of Trivium's recordings and I never understood why these guys received such praise from everyone. I've always thought the band had good musicians in it, but when it came to the songs and albums, these guys didn't really deserve the praise. As a result, I've always felt that Trivium is a an overrated band.
That was until "shogun" fell in my hands. "Shogun" is a very solid album overall. An album that combines impressive musicianship with the expected technicality. Many great songs in this one. Great melodies and leads and some great heavy as hell riffs that will make you headbang the whole time!
All in all a solid album finally by Trivium and one that I'm pretty positive you will love if metal is the music for you!

This is a great album and a must own for any trivium fan. So maybe it isn't as good as the earlier trivium stuff like 'ascendancy' and 'ember to inferno', but it is still a top-notch album with some rip-roaring moshing-metal songs like, 'down from the sky', 'throes of perdition', 'the calamity, 'kirisute gomen' and 'shogun'. 5 Out of 5.

An improvement yes, but still.

Having been a massive fan of Trivium and their first two albums, "Ember To Inferno" and "Ascendancy", I was, as many other people, thoroughly dissapointed with their terrible efforts on "The Crusade".
This, thankfully, is better, and almost more metal. It's still no great shakes, and is crammed full of cheesy lyrics, and weak music, but at least it is better, much better, than it's predecessor.
Album highlights include "kirisute Gomen", but their really isn't all that much to shout about.

A soothing cup of tea for young Mr. Heafy's sore throat!

Was Crusade not supposed to be that good? Never realised. Anyway, bought this mainly for my son who's well into Trivium and Slipknot - AND NOT AT ALL FOR ME (I just. . . listen to it more!). I suppose to some, Trivium can sound a bit like a Florida regional finalist for Anthrax Soundalikes 2008 - you can definately hear the influence - but I think that would be a cheap dismissal of their massive sound. You can definately see what they were going for in this album; they certainly seem to have a bigger sound than the previous album, the title track standing out particularly - such a massive, sweeping epic of a song I've not really heard since Iron Maiden's 'Rime Of The Ancient Mariner' from their 'Powerslave' album, although it does seem to go a bit 'Tenacious D' towards the middle, but soon recovers.
One of the best metal-bashers this side of the 21st Century? Hmmmm, maybe.

I brought the album because it was hyped up in many music magazines.
Having gone off Trivium after 'The Crusdae' I was pleasntly surprised, They have gone back to how they were and have become heavier in sound.
Although I still don't think it's as good as the CD was made out to be, hence the 4 star rating, other than that, I loved the CD

This album is awsome deffinatley an improvement form "the crusade"
Heafy has gone back to shouting agen however its nicely mixed in with his clean singing, coreys vocals seem deeper than ever :d
Catchey riffs, amazing druming and speedy solos throughout the album, although its not as heavy as ascendancy its a definate must have for trivium fans
The dvd is goo too, gives a good insight to the album and entertaining watching th band up to there antics.

They said it was going to be the heaviest stuff theyve done...and what a load of bull! the vocals sound terrible the riffs sound terrible its a huge let down unfortunatly :( if your going to get a trivium album stick to acendancy :) now thats one brill album this is going to be one of them albums where people who dont like trivium will like but i honestly cant see why...theyve ruined it jus like slipknot did with there new album :(

Combines Ascendancy and the Crusade to make Amazing
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 02/10/2008 12:36:32
This album is not quite as heavy as ascendancy and has melodic parts throughout similar to The Crusade. Its basically a combination of what Trivium have learnt so far and is definatly a new level for them. Overall if your into Trivium at all you will love this album! If not give it a listen and see what you think. I found it very catchy and im sure you will get into it in no time!
