Masterpiece!!
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 24/07/2009 13:04:13
Trivium just get better and better and better with each new album released and with new opus "Shogun" the Band have yet again come up with another masterpiece, i can not think of a better more complete CD released throughout the whole of 2008 or in fact in the last 4/5 years. There is no need for me or anyone else to harkle on about the sheer and total brilliance of this new Album, i just suggest that you go out and get yourself a copy this instant as Hard Rock/Heavy Metal just does not get or come any better than this little gem. Absolutely awesome and flawless form start to finish.....20 out of 10 Note: This Review was made by Play.com customer: Cotty59uk on Rakuten’s Play.com on the date shown.
One Of The Albums Of 2008
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 13/06/2009 22:52:27
This here is the very album that will change trivium from the "almost underground" band they were/are, to the "metallica of our generation......." Neverless, this album from opening track to the final notes of 12 minute!!! Shogun is a blast. Those who were afraid of the crusade will welcome back the screams and growls of these young boys :) Album highlights include "throes of perdition" and "down from the sky" a word must be put in for the heavy part of "he who spawned the furies" and the orgasmic chorus of "like callisto to a star in heaven" A mammoth acheivment, 4 and a half stars!!! Enjoy this one. Note: This Review was made by Play.com customer: ReallyFatman on Rakuten’s Play.com on the date shown.
A metal masterpiece

Shogun is an epic album, one of the best albums of 2008. They are constantly improving as musicians and the guitar solos are better than ever, the writing on this album is brilliant. Songs like 'Down from the sky', 'Insurrection', 'The calamity', and 'Of prometheus and the crucifix' are true modern classics. You should buy this album it is a brilliant. Fantastic album!

This album is great! After The Crusade, which wasn't bad, but let's face it, wasn't the best, I wasn't sure what to expect from Trivium. In the back of my mind I couldn't get away from the niggling feeling that they were going to produce something sub-par, so when I first heard this album it blew me away! The singles early on work well, leaving time for other quality tracks towards the end - notably the title track, which is just phenomenal. A 12 minute masterpiece, and ends the album with a bang leaving you lusting for more! Can't wait for the next album, really recommended. Metal album of the year?
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 30/10/2008 19:11:46
Quite possibly. Nothing on this album disappoints me as a metal fan, and I have to say it is a heck of a lot better than The Crusade, and dare I say better than Ascendancy and Ember to Inferno? Yes I dare say, because this album is pure brilliance. "Down From the Sky", "Shogun" and "Kirsute Gomen" are three songs you must check out. All in all, I strongly suggest that if you like heavy metal-you buy this album. Note: This Review was made by Play.com customer: CalTheRaven on Rakuten’s Play.com on the date shown.
Quite dissapointed
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 28/10/2008 16:17:21
When i recieved the album i was distraught to find that the actual artwork inside the cardboard case didn't have any writing, and more to the point, the name of the tracks were not on the back!!! The lyrics are not in the book either, just paintings (good ones). So now i have to keep the cardboard cover (which doesn't fit in my CD rack) because its the only thing which has the name of the tracks on it! Screams! Drums! Guitars! . . .Trivium are back!
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 28/10/2008 14:24:37
After the crusade (which I should point out I really liked) I was banking on a mixture between that and ascendancy, the next level of trivium, great harmonies and savage screams. Finally a band has delivered what their fans want! The first 4 tracks are just out of this world, perhaps slightly too long but they have it all! Better than any track on the crusade. Songs 5-11 are all really solid tracks which follow suit with the first 4 even if they aren't quite as good. A great album and a defining point in trivium's career. The only thing I could moan at is some of the song titles, I know its their thing but I just think that Matt could easily write songs about things closer to existance like "down from the sky", I mean come on what the hell is "Of Prometheus And The Crucifix" and "Torn between scylla and charybdis". . . . .A big bloody mouthful thats what!
