Whats with the criticism?????
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 18/03/2011 18:40:28
This album is so misunderstood, and the album may not be as good as their most previous release, Ascendancy, but I believe that The Crusade is an excellent and very entertaining album that should satisfy most metal fans. I will admit that it would have been better with the screamed vocals but they are just as good with clean vocals. Songs like Ignition and Anthem (We Are The Fire) should not be compared to the once screaming Trivium, but respected by the effort put into them.
It's a very thrashy album, but not as heavy sounding like their previous releases.
There is no denying that Heafy's voice changed to a James Hetfield replica but they were just experimenting to see what works for them, which most bands do, just because it's different doesn't mean that it's bad.
The guitar solos are impressive, and its something that you remember, the guitar riffs are very catchy and heavy, and they are what keep the songs strong. The song with the best solo on here is probably Tread The Floods which is nice and melodic and played at a moderate speed.
The production is great, and the songs are wonderfully put together
In conclusion, this is a very underrated album and mostly.
The songs in general are amazing, and they are very well written and constructed.
Recommended tracks to listen to are
Anthem (We Are The Fire)
To The Rats
Tread The Floods

A Poor Effort...

Its a shame really, Ascendancy was a very well recieved offering by Trivium and really broke them into the scene and gave them a huge fanbase. This their third album should have really built on that, and Trivium looked to be promising a "Master of Puppets" effort and groundbreaking work.
Yet when you actually listen to this album you feel like you've just bought a poor re-hash of other bands work, all the songs can easily be attributed to a major heavy metal band, yet with none of Triviums own flare that can be found on Ascendancy. Songs like "We Are The Fire" and "Detonation" seem to lack any imagination, and worst of all "The Crusade", the 8 minute "epic" instrumental, was a complete let down, with 8 minutes of unimaginative riffage, and with no originallity on either of the bass or drums which might as well not have had their tracks laid on the final track.
Compared to earlier works a let down and truly a poor quality effort from a band that should have done better, and generally a black mark on the world of heavy metal, if you have the money and you want a Trivium album, buy Ascendancy or Shogun.

This album was a huge step down from Ascendancy. Some Tracks are ok like To The Rats and Becoming the Dragon.

This should never have seen the light of day.

When Trivium wrote and released this, their third album, they effectively delivered a huge, slap in the face to 90% of their fanbase.
Having gone from nowhere to absolutely massive in the space of two short albums, Trivium have apparently decided to completely sell out, disregarding what they had previously done, and completely ignoring the wants and needs of thos who had effectively got them to the elevated status they now enjoy.
This album is a joke, has no substance, and features weak song after weak song, with no lyrical depth.
A complete and utter dissapointment.

The album is great and the songs as usual all sound different. Trivium are a band who aren't afraid to experiment and try new things. Calling Trivium sell outs is pure ignorance and stupidity. If Trivium were after money and fame then they'd keep remaking The Ascendancy as it sold so well. However they've composed this brilliant unique album that gives them a large variety of sound.

The Crusade!!!! Great album!

This album definately is aimed at the mainstream metal fans and has worked in increasing Trivium's popularity. Whilst it lacks the core vocal sounds of Ember' and Ascendency, this is a far more enjoyable album listen to. Some great tracks include Tread the Floods - a hard edged Metallica sound and Anthem - a true live classic. Not everyone's tastes, however Trvivium were never going to huge unless they toned down the roaring.

all these reviews are just ridiculas, since the first and second album, this album really does show how up them selves this band really is. All they care about is popularity and their sound now is just plain mainstream rubish. I dont no if they are just trying to be the new Metallica, but this band really isnt worth it. Do not buy this, it will be a waste of money and listening time. Im really seriously into extreme metal bands and i know this band is an embarrassment to metal!

This album is amazing. Yes they have changed from Ascendancy vocally but their music is still incredible. The lyrics have true meaning in relation to things happening in the World and this album stands out to me as awesome.
Trivium are a fantastic band and continue to amaze people with their musical talent. Their new album is going to be incredible and will be a mixture of the first 3 albums (Ember To Inferno, Ascendancy and The Crusade.)
I recommend picking up all 3 of these albums, all amazing.
I hope this helps anyone interested in this album.
