Within Temptation is the best!

This album just has to be my favourite of all time. It's where I started. At first I saw "Stand my Ground." on Kerrang! and, needless to saw, fell in love with their music instantly. Then my sister bought this album, randomly just to see if they were any good. I borrowed it and instantly they became my favourite band. I have all but the very recent album. I even got the "Heart of EVerything" On the very day it came out, from Play.com.
I even saw them live for their "Heart of EVerything" tour in the UK. I saw them in London, Austoria and it was the best concert I've ever been too!! I really really enjoyed myself!
What I love most about their songs is that a lot of them have very deep, hidden messages. I've listened to many very closely and most of them nearly set me to tears due to the deep and powerful messages, Lawlz. Especially in the albums "The Silent Force." And "Mother Earth." One example is the track, "Mother Earth." where it is telling us that the Earth gives and it takes from us and will continue to carry on after we are gone. I love the range of songs in which they do. Some are powerful and hard, while others are soft and beautiful.
They really are my favourite band and will continue to be for a long, long time! If I were to meet the band in real life, I would pass out xDDD
Peace out and WT forever!

One of the best albums ever made...
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 21/07/2009 11:12:00
I first heard about Within Temptation when I randomly decided to watch Kerrang! on TV, 'What Have You Done' came on and it was absolutely amazing! From there I went straight to youtube where I typed in Within Temptation and listened to 'Stand My Ground' - again I was amazed.
I have all 4 of WT's albums and The Silent Force is most definately the best one ever!
I think the best song would have to be:
1.See Who I Am
4.Stand My Ground
6.Forsaken - My Favourite =D
The bonus songs are amazing:
12. A Dangerous Mind - The 'Rock-iest' song on the album!
13. The Swan Song - Absolutely beautiful!

I was first introduced to Within Temptation when my favourite DJ played 'Stand My Ground' on my local radio station and I was absolutely blown away. I had never been introduced to symphonic metal and I am so thankful for that happening. To this day it is my favourite WT (Within Temptation) song. *Note: The album version is different and far superior to the single version.*
I have no doubt that this is WT's best album. It has everything, from the sheer power of 'stand my ground' to the pure beauty of 'somewhere'.
For those unfamiliar to symphonic metal, it's metal that uses an orchestra, creating deep and rich sounds in the songs. Many people wrongly classify it as gothic metal, however it is very emotional music which can put people off sometimes.
Sharon's voice is of course as important as the orchestra in creating WT's unique sound, and the band and orchestra are seamlessly used and highly complementary to one another. It confuses me why people are saying the orchestra is only used in parts, it is used throughout the album. Of course not all of the orchestra are playing all the time but no good and dramatic piece would have such a score.
The constant comparison to nightwish annoys me, sure they fall under the same genre but are very different bands with totally different styles and sounds.
There are absolutely no filler tracks on this CD, every song is a great song in its own right. It won't be everyone's taste, I'm sure, but this album is very close to perfect.

Having previously bought the Mother Earth cd and within temptations recent effort The Heart Of Everyhing i was very interested to add this little gem to my collection. I say this because i thought Mother Earth was a bit hit and miss with some very good tracks and some very average songs too. The Heart Of Everything on the other hand was just amazing and gave you the sort of album you really wanted from Within Temptation in the first place. The Silent Force really is brilliant. From the opening Track See Who I Am its clear where this album is gonna take you. Stand My Ground, The Dark and Memories are instant WT classics. If you dont already have this in your collection, GET IT!!

A nice surprise

The singer of this symphonic metal band really can sing unlike the singer of nightwish who sounds like banshee. The use of an orchestra here and there makes the music very interesting.
Some of the songs seem to merge into one another , but this seems to be a characteristic of the symphonic metal genre, ei other bands from this genre eg nightwish have songs that just merge into one another.
A few of the songs have a deep meaning eg memories. If you ever get the chance to watch the video you will see a story unfold.

The main problem with this album is that the band seem to be trying to do things just because other bands are doing it.
In this instance it is the use of the full orchestra. Unfortunately Nightwish used that trick first on Once and it works far better because the orchestra is put to proper use, instead of just the odd accompanying part here and there.
The album still has the Within Temptation feel to it but seems to lack the light melody that made Mother Earth so good and instead seems to be replaced by an attempt at trying to be a more heavy metal type of band.
The one thing the album does have going for it is that it includes Jane Doe as a bonus track, which is just about Within Temptation at there best.
Not quite worth the money alone for that, probably not the best place to start if you haven't listened to Within Temptation before but essential if you already own the other albums just so have the full discography.
