The Greatest Stoner Rock Album Of All Time
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 06/08/2013 21:15:15
This album blew my mind when I first got it and still blows my mind to this day. Many people have argued that 'Blues For The Red Sun', Kyuss' previous album, is better than 'Welcome To Sky Valley' but I rate Sky Valley higher. Its production is much more refined, the song writing is much more interesting and mature, the lyrics seem to paint better pictures and provoke more vivid imagery to me, the drumming seems to bring more of a great energy to the music and the bass lines are vastly more interesting, and believe me I think I have the right to decipher good bass lines as I've got a grade 7 distinction in playing bass. Also the album holds more subtly and makes more interesting use of psychedelic effects. This album epitomises Stoner Rock, from the beginning it tears open the air in the room like a fresh deep wound from skating with 'Gardenia', it then moves onto 'Asteroid' which retains a riff so cosmic it'll blow your mind into a different dimension, then 'Supa Scuppa' showcases the melodic yet powerful vocals John Garcia effortlessly produces. After that '100 Degrees' launches you straight back into Desert Paved riffs of stoned art. This is followed by the highly atmospheric mantra of acoustic psychedelia that is 'Space Cadet', this song exhibits that Kyuss' lyrics can be elegant and delicate and have innumerable depth. 'Demon Cleaner' is a great pillar in the album, I'll never forget those illustrious drums. As well as every song on the album, every other track showcases brilliant guitar skill, distinguishing drumming that will inspire generations of drummers, dexterous bass lines, raw, powerful vocals, phenomenal musicianship and song writing that has and will continue to be copied by countless numbers of bands but never come close to scraping the surface of this albums pure genius. I would identify favourite tracks but I'd have to name every track on the album. Not only is it the Greatest Stoner Rock Album of All Time, for me it is the Greatest Album of All Time.

The best stoner rock album in the world¿ever!

With their predecessor 'Blues for the Red Sun', Kyuss showed the world a new style of rock music, concrete blocks of guitar riffs and super heavy bass guitars. Every track is a winner, from the laid back acoustic 'Space Cadet' to the blistering '100 Degrees' this album doesn't let up. Considered the best album they released, it really brought them into the limelight (a bit anyway) with Metallica and Dave Grohl, of then Nirvana, becoming huge fans. A real musicians band.

"getting high" simulation?
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 20/10/2009 23:16:43
this stuff is so trippy, pleasent and harsh at times. if you want to get high without using herbs, this is the stuff. just have a dose of space cadet and you are off on a trip to space watching the bright stars, dreaming and out of this world.
ranks #1 in my favourite band of all time. this is a masterpiece that not much people know about, like a secret oasis in the middle of the desert.
