For me this remains The Doors ultimate work. It won't be everyones taste and it may seem outdated nowadays but the quality of each song makes this one of the best debut albums i've ever heard. Definitely worth a listen!

I bought this album because the only two 'The Doors' songs I knew were on it. And I'm trying to expand my music tastes, because generally I'm quite narrow minded. It was with this album that I discovered how great Jim Morrison's voice sounds! I don't know what it is about it, but I love it so much. I played the album all the way through when I was on my own one afternoon, and thoroughly enjoyed doing so. It's a shame Morrison died so young. He had real talent.

The Doors remastered/expanded

This their first album is one of their many essential purchases for fans and anyone going beyond the compilations for the first time, including as it does the lengthy classics "The End" and "Light My Fire" plus their first single "Break On Through" and the haunting "The Crystal Ship". The extras are really worthwhile too - two different versions of "The Crystal Ship" and a 1966 version of "Indian Summer" that would later be re-recorded for the penultimate Jimbo studio album "Morrison Hotel".
As with all other studio album reviews, if you are thinking of buying more than the odd Doors LP may I recommend the "Perception" box for under 50 GBP whilst still available, in which you get not only the six stereo CDs but also 6 DVD-Audio discs containing 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS surround mixes of the albums, plus video footage of the band in action, housed in six 3-way fold out replica vinyl LP sleeves. It really is worth going the extra mile and paying a little more. You won't be disappointed.

The Doors-The Doors, 40 years on is still as new and fresh-sounding as ever, truly awesome, especially THE END. The Doors were the ultimate in psychedelic experimentation and 'rock theatre'. They were a tight, compact unit of young musicians and vocalist; I don't think they can ever be bettered.
Having said that, I think The Doors should have been firmly closed with the death of Jim Morrison; I hate tribute groups at the best of times and to see (or not to see? I wouldn't walk ten paces to watch the reformed Doors) old guys re-enacting their lost youth this way is pathetic.
