A great addition to my collection

Right, okay, let me start by saying that if you are looking for Green Day, you might be a little disappointed, I knew what I was getting and so I am happy. What this album gives you is the very unique Stylings of Billie and the boys, mixed with a combination of Roll and Roll, Quentin Tarantino Soundtracks (You know, that kitsch kinda sound he gets) and 60's Britpop.
A few of the bands I thought of when I was listening were The Kinks, The Who, The Style Council, Morrissey/The Smiths..... and some more that I am sure I will come up with. In my opinion, I found this album to be very listenable, after the first play all the way through, I was already able to hum and whistle along to the songs, that is always a good thing with any album.
Yes, a few of the tracks may have errr.... how to put this, they MAY be a bit of a rip off of other songs for example, "Alligator" is "You Really Got Me" by the Kinks, "27th Ave. Shuffle" has a definite "My Generation" by The Who about the guitar work in the opening and the start of "Sally"..... well I can't help thinking of "Get of my cloud" by the Rolling Stones.
Now, put all of those elements together and you have an album that MIGHT sometimes border on copyright theft (lol) but hey, there are only a certain number of times and combinations of notes you can use in making up a song, listen to old Chuck Berry stuff, most of that was basically the same tune with different lyrics, it is just something that happens in music and can't be helped.
The album itself has a wonderful sound to the recording and you can tell it has been recorded on an 8 Track recorder, not because it sounds primitive, just because it captures the essence of the era that has been beaten out of music by modern day technology. The songs are good and the vocals are exactly what you would expect, in some parts there are even some lovely backing vocals, something I haven't really heard since 1039 Smooth, very nice and melodic.
What else can I really say..... not sure to be honest, this is a great album but you have to keep an open mind, this isn't just Green Day in a different package, this is an album that remains true to their musical ethic, but really goes for a specific era and showcases the kind of influences who you could well imagine were the inspiration behind the band as they are today.
Anyway, I hope this helps some of you, please gimme a thumbs up if you have found this to be useful :)

Not a typical sound for green day, quite dated, but its a stonker if you give it time, first playthrough i wasn't sure but its grow on me to the point i just love it. Its still the first album on my playlist and has been for sometime now. The trio can do no wrong

Another Bad Green Day Side Project
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 18/12/2008 15:18:15
Green Days previous side project The Network wasnt that good, and neither is this. It trys to sound like a old fashioned 60s style album, but the modern lyrics do not fit with the music.

This is a great album. Even if your not a fan of Green Day you should check this out as it nothing like what Green Day do. Its got a very 60's theme to it. A fantastic album that will put you in a good mood.

green day are always better when they're not green day T_T
well, at least that is in the last few years. american idiot was a huge letdown for me, whereas the network's money money 2020 was amazing! and yet again, a green day but not green day but it really is green day album has emerged and blown green day out of the water. a great album full of great tunes, can't wait to get my hands on it XD shame i can't say that for the non existing new actual green day green day album XD
and thanks to that, the word green now has no meaning.
now go buy this album!
