This is the version that die hard Ridley Scott fans have been waiting for, an extra 40 minutes of expanded storyline that sheds more light on the motivations of key characters such as the King of Jerusalem (Edward Norton), Sibylla (Eva Green), Godfrey (Liam Neeson) and Balian (Orlando Bloom).
An epic film set in Europe and the Middle East, Kingdom Of Heaven follows one man's struggle to better himself and the world around him. Orlando Bloom stars as Balian, a French blacksmith who is mourning the deaths of his wife and baby when his estranged nobleman father (Liam Neeson) arrives and asks him to join the Crusades in Jerusalem. Mindful that conducting the Lord's work will help him atone for his sins, Balian agrees and embarks on the perilous journey. Along the way, he reveals his gifts of inherent goodness and fair treatment of all human beings.
Upon reaching Jerusalem, a city where his meagre beginnings no longer matter, Balian earns respect and fealty while secretly courting the capricious wife of the ruthless Guy de Lusignan (Marton Csokas) who seeks a way to destabilise the uneasy Christian-Muslim truce brokered by King Baldwin (Edward Norton) and wage war against his religious enemy...
Director Ridley Scott bring the scale of his previous epic Gladiator to this film while confronting hundreds of years of religious conflict. At times controversial in both its content and production difficulties, populated by an all-star cast and held together by a sterling central performance from Orlando Bloom, Kingdom Of Heaven is a multi-faceted classic of a humble man who chooses his fate, instead of accepting the fate given to him at birth.

stunning but bloated

This directors cut is actually a regress as to compared to the theatrical cut. The latter was no masterpiece in Ridley scott terms, but delivered the goods and had as usual stunning visuals and fantastic detail, plus great battle scenes. This version is....boring. Too long and bloated, turns an excellent film into an ok film.

The Holy Land

Fantastic film that has everything. Breaktaking visuals, stunning battle scenes and great acting. Orlando Bloom takes good command of his role and plays it like a true Knight. Also Liam neeson is very good in it as Blooms father. This also shows what the Holy Land ment to people from our lands and saladins armies and people. And now the directors cut offers more extra scenes and depth into the original story. Great buy and i would hesitate at all.

when i saw the original draft i thought what a disjointed film.but i recently bought the directors cut on normal dvd and boy it improved the film two fold.i am going to invest in the bluray version(hide from the wife)as it is a classic in every sense of the word.you can see alot of work has gone into the film and cannot wait to get the bluray copy.in years to come i think the critics will review this film and acknowledge its excellence.

Silk Purse from a Sow's Ear

This version has turned a disjointed drag of a Movie into an eminently watchable and visually superb couple of hours. Bloody and gritty , it makes the points it should have made in the Cinema but failed to do.

This is the benchmark for all other blu-ray movies. I agree that the original film on DVD was good but on blu-ray it is superb. The visuals are so impressive and the sound is glorious .... every frame is crisp and full of colour. If extras are your thing then get over it and buy it anyway, you won't regret it.

This directors cut is so much more meaningful than the original version.
The Blue Ray version is superlative not just for the content of the movie but for the picture quality and the dts-HD master audio. Both are jaw dropping!
Go buy the movie, you will not regret it. This version joins my few all time great movies

Like all epic films of the past , you need a good story, good actors and great locations , this has everything you require , added to this a very good transfer into blue-ray and you get a very enjoyable couple of hours of entertainment , weather or not the film is historicly correct or not i can not say , i do know that when released a large number of negative comments from around the world appeared from people who had not seen the film , i enjoyed the film and would recommend it , if you liked troy and gladiator , you will enjoy this .

Well the original version I had of this movie I would have to rate as a 3/5 after watching this extended Blu Ray it's a 5/5. The Directors version answers so many questions and definatly adds to the film.
