The very first of James Bond's adventures, featuring a young Sean Connery stepping into the role of Britain's super-suave secret agent.
Bond's mission takes him to the steamy island of Jamaica, where mysterious energy waves are interfering with U.S. missile launches. As he unravels the astonishing truth, Bond must fight deadly assassins, sexy femme's fatales and even a poisonous tarantula. With the help of crack CIA agents Felix Lieter (Jack Lord) and the beautiful Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress), he searches for the headquarters of Dr. No, who is implementing an evil plan of world domination.
Only Bond, with his combination of wit, charm and skill, can confront the madman and save the human race from a horrible fate. With breathtaking chases, amazing stunts and a bold, nerve-shattering climax, this outrageously entertaining adventure pushes the envelope for non-stop thrills and magnificently sets the standard for the most popular movie series in film history.

An outstanding picture and sound quality, the Lowry Company in charge of this restoration did an excellent job for the oldest film of the collection, this film couldn't have been watched in better condition than it is today. If you watch carefully, you should even notice that Ursula Andress is not completely naked during the "shower scene" but wears a flesh-colored bodysuit.
The English one is absolutely perfect, a real pleasure to listen to the Scottish accent of...
The French and German dubbing both of them original are of very good quality. The amazing part is the music which differs from the original English soundtrack in particular the French one: we can hear some music during the scene where the "driver" swallows the cyanide-cigarettes but not on the English soundtrack.
The Latin Spanish is good except the poor choice of voice for Sean Connery who ends up with a very deep voice.

insane quality for a 60s movie

The movie itself is like nothing other from the 60s. the BLU-ray version graphic is better than the average 2010-2011 blu-ray movie even tho it 50 year older. the movie itself is exiting full of action and sean connery is doing a good job as james bond.

I bought this and didnt get my hopes up about the quality, i read reviews with people saying its not good and people saying its fantastic so i thought i'd give it a go. All i can say is magic! The colour is revived and if your watching it with speakers then turn them up and bam! Its amazing what they can do with such an old film. Its a very good quality Blu Ray and if you were on the fence about buying it then dont be get it you wont be disappointed!

The blue-ray images on this film are very good but are let down by the soundtrack that at times fades so that dialogue is hard to hear

The first bond was made in 1962 Dr No. That movie alone gets its fair share of air play on the TV to this very day... I wonder; will we still be watching bourne in 46 years from now? I don't think so... bourne is fun, good entertainment. Bond is well proven and is here to stay, long live bond... he has no substitutes.

Worth Every Penny!!

I've been a Bond fan for 24yrs, I'm not going to review the film, it's a classic. I've owned it on VHS, DVD and i've seen it countless times on TV. Being as this film is 47yrs old the picture quality is outstanding, i was somewhat sceptical as i've read many a review on blu-rays made throughout 70's - 80's - 90's were people have made excuse for the poor quality Blu-ray transfer because of the films age. Having seen this, it raises and sets the standard of what should be expected of Blu-ray, regardless of the age of the film.

What a great transfer they have done to Blu-Ray

Well i am a avid James Bond fan of the movies and especially the early ones. I own Dr No on DVD and i must say that after watching the Blu-Ray version, I am blown away at what they have done with something that was made in 1963 compared to modern movies.
Dr No is a worthy addition to any Blu-Ray movie collection, HOWEVER the sound is reworked from Mono into DTS-HD and i must say they have done a great job. All the colours are so vibrant and in your face for detail.
This is worthy of your money as you wont regret it if you love Bond Movies.

Great Film Restoration Restores Some Pride in Bond Series
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 31/10/2008 00:59:02
I have had to make do with watching the "old-style" Bond movies (pre Casino Royale) on ITV and ITV2 for quite a few years now. And after all these years it slowly became apparent that this is what the Bond films seemed to have been relegated to - the "nothing else is on TV so I might as well" genre. Indeed, when Casino Royale came out it just seem to compound this feeling of the old films being nearly B-grade in terms of picture quality and farcical in action sequences.
However, this Blu Ray release of Dr. No seems to have breathed new life into the actual quality of the film. It was fantastic. It felt like Bond belonged on the big screen again. The range, saturation and vividity of the colours really stood out as did how clean and sharp the image was. Video bitrate was consistently between 30-35Mbps. Motion was also smooth which always helps iron out the creases in dated action sequences. A look at the 10 min special feature of how they created a 4K restoration of the film demonstrates well the care they put into improving the quality of this film.
One of the guys who worked on the restoration puts it well "the film now [nearly] looks like it was set in the sixties rather than made in it"
Having only rented it from Lovefilm for now, if the other Bond Blu rays appear this good, it might soon be time to finally permanently add Mr. Bond to the home film collection. Highly recommended!
