Bright and Vibrant

An excellent feature length episode of Matt Groening's Futurama. I bought this on Blu-Ray and the colours are so vibrant and it just looks amazing. My 2 year old nephew loves the way it looks and gets transfixed to the TV every time I put it on. The story is based on the classic game 'Dungeons and Dragons'. The great thing about Futurama is that it has the ability to draw in adults to watch the cartoon with its innuendos and constant jokes. A really funny film for the whole family.

Funny, but the story is thin

Not much to add to the other reviews, the story is definitely the weakest of the three films (personally Beast With a Billion Backs is my favourite) but there are still more jokes here per minute than most comedies have in their entire running time, and the vast majority of them work. I did find the Lord of the Rings pastiche a bit dull after a while as I don't think they needed to go through the main bits of all three films (highly condensed of course!) and it came across as padding. Overall it's funny and worth watching if you're a fan.

Poor third entry
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 09/02/2009 14:38:39
This really isn't very good at all I'm afraid. I had read reviews that claimed that this third movie was a step up from the dire second one but it really is no better. Simply put it just isn't funny. Also, the producers obsession with explaining past events (which worked fairly well in the first movie) falls flat here. Do I care why Nibbler was stranded on Vergon 6 when Leela found him? No, actually I don't. And the scenes of Bender locked up in a mental institution have been done before. As for the Lord of the Rings pastiche, South Park did this last year (the Imaginationland trilogy), and did it much better. I really wish I'd enjoyed this movie more as I truly love the series, but if the yet-to-be-released fourth film is as poor as this then I won't shed a tear if there aren't any more.

Strictly for die hard fans only.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm a fan of Futurama, but I do prefer this to The Simpsons.
I decided to get this before seeing the first 2 adventures, but the truth is, if I had known what they were going to be like I wouldn't have bothered.
I actually had to watch this three times because I was so bored I fell asleep watching this the first two times.
The story is a total mess, uninteresting and a bit confusing. The main problem here is that it doesn't know what it wants to be. First it's about Dungeons & Dragons, then it's about Lord Of The Rings and then it's about something else.
I can't really give a full review, because it's so dull I forgot it as soon as it finished!
The only good thing here is the HD presentation. Both the picture (in 1.78:1 widescreen) and 5.1 DTS-HD Master audio are good, but not exactly demo material.
The extras are appalling. Again, I can't go into detail because, like the main feature, I forgot most of it as soon as I watched them.
My advise: simply don't bother. Save yourself some money and wait for this to come on TV. Avoid this like you would avoid a gang of teenage hoodies hanging around an ATM machine at 3 o' clock on a Saturday morning. Truly awful in every way imaginable.

I dont agree with the above . This is a great film . Still not as good as big score but better than beast with a ...
The lord of the rings references are great and the twist at the end is good .
But as all blu rays its a tad expensive

Bring back the single episodes
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 06/11/2008 23:43:50
After the first 2 films I was hoping Futurama would go back to its roots of being a bit edgy and more comical than the like of the Simpsons but sadly I was left dissapointed.
The movies for me have been a real let down, they need to go back to episode versions and try and get a bit more adult humour.
All in all its a steady watch but id personally wait until its shown on Sky 1 and save your money.
The quality is good, but at £18 a little expensive for what you get.
