Fast-paced, violent revenge thriller written and produced by Luc Besson ('Leon', 'Nikita', 'Taxi'). Liam Neeson stars as Bryan, a former CIA secret agent living in the US who is obliged to resurrect the skills he learned in his old job after his estranged 17-year-old daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) is kidnapped by sex slave traffickers while travelling with a friend in Europe.

" I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you"

One panic stricken phone call is broken by Liam Neeson's calm reasoning.
"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, Skills I have aquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."
And so was the Liam Neeson movie that everyone thought was going direct to DVD became an unexpected hit. Of course on paper this is paper hin stuff, but the execusion is tight fast exciting and gripping. The bonus of the Harder cut up's the violence to a very satisfying Euro thriller that made Liam Neeson an action movie star over night.
It's a pity that the sequel didn't deliver as much as this original did.

Excellent -But Why?

Liam Neeson trained Batman, Obi-Wan, and Darth Vader. He is both Zeus and Aslan, making him a god in at least two different religions. He also punches wolves. Why on earth would you try and kidnap his daughter?!

This is the first film I'd seen with Neeson in, it's was refreshing to have an action hero who seems a bit more human like the rest of us. Ok yes he does seem a bit invincible at times, but given the character background and the subject you can forgive this as you end up throwing every punch with him.
Subtle elements such as scores are a big deal for me and this was another good one. I'm also a fan on Euro settings, so thumbs up all round.

One of the very best Action movies EVER
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 23/03/2012 11:06:04
When you think of action stars you instantly think of Stallone, Arnie, Willis, Van Damme...all who have made solid careers out of the genre, yet only one man can claim to be worthy of having his name written amongst them for his performance in one Role. That name is Liam Neeson. Taken, in my opinion is one of the greatest action movies ever. It is simple and isn't ground breaking but incredibly fast paced and exciting and with the drive of Neesons character determind to use his particular set of skills to rescue his kidnapped daughter you are right their with him the whole movie. The fight scenes are top notch, every thud and crack Liam delivers with his fists, elbows and feet make you flinch as he furiously races the clock to rescue his daughter before it is too late. Empire magazine shockingly gave this brilliant action thriller 1 star in their review but if you put it up against action movies it holds its own. The Blu Ray transfer is excellent in places but several times throughout the movie, especially dark outside scenes it becomes very grainy indeed. But for this price and pure adrenaline rush this movie provides, it is a must have to any Blu Ray collection.

Now written 6 reviews for this film, and none have been published, getting the feeling someone is being a bit sensitive...... Balanced opinion being an important thing, this film is not good. Liam should be ashamed. The story is tripe, the action too far fetched and formulaic and it's just poor. Wonder if this one will get put up?

I'm not really in to this sort of film, but this was gripping the whole way through! The thing about this film that makes it great is that you know it does go on in real life (maybe not with this much action!). You find yourself feeling involved with the story. Even my mum who doesn't watch films at all was silent the whole way through as she was hooked. Definitely recommend this film, fantastic. As for the blu-ray quality - brilliant. Great definition the whole way through. Enjoy the film
