people say this is a bad film dont have a clue this is a brilliant horror. people say it takes to long to get into the gore but its building up the characters so you care about them. this is the best horror to come out in years better than most of the rubbish horror remakes coming out.

An ok horror film, but there are many better than this.

The story has a very slow start which does add to the tension, I did like the plot idea and the film itself is well crafted. But it took a good 50 minutes to really get going at all and then raced to an ending that was not as satisfying as it needed to be. I think that this is a Marmite type of film you will either love it or hate it!

This film is terrible. Why anyone would watch more than once is beyond me. I like the idea of having victims being reqruited from all over Europe as was the case with our main characters being hooked on the idea in Amsterdam. The characters are by the way also quite boring. Bad acting. Lovely stereotypical performances from Iceland and Japan. hurray. Don't buy it. Dont's see it. Don't be in the same room as a copy of it. It Stinks.

Did i enjoy this film ? OF CORSE MY HORSE !
If you love Horror and Comedy then this is the film for you.
I thought it would be like Scary Movie where they combine Horror and Comedy all the way throughout in a cheesy storyline but its not like that at all.
Starts off really funny then gets gory.
GREAT in full high deff !!! DEFFINETLY recommended

This is an amazing film. Very artistic in the way that it is filmed. There is an immense amount of gore, so it is certainly not for the faint hearted. Basically, the story is about an almost 'exclusive club' whereby people pay money in order to torture and kill others. Nothing more, nothing less.
As for being on blu-ray, I feel it is a bit of a let-down to be honest. For the price, I suppose it is quite cheap, so not worth bothering over. But this is certainly not a film that you would use to show off your high definition 'capabilities' as it were.
Certainly worth buying as a film and for the price, as if you like it, it is undoubtably something you will want to watch over and over again. If you already have it on DVD or you can get the DVD for a lot cheaper, its certainly not worth bothering with the blu-ray!

The writers of this movie must of been disturbed, Horrific
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 25/06/2007 21:21:53
Make no mistake, this is a very disturbing and horrific film. Like a few ither movies, such as From Dusk till dawn this is a movie of two halves. In the 1st half, we see the 2 American's and there European tag along mate, on their European tour of taking drugs, abusing alcohol and engaging in carefree sex.
The film in HD is OK, lots of detail in the hostel, especially during the chainsaw sequence. The surround sound is also great. The film on blu-ray is great value and if your wanting to see Hostel 2, the 1st part is a must... Even though Hostel 2 has been dubbed 'Torture Porn)
So, your left waiting for the Gore and Horror to start... And how this happens is great. And this is the best part of the movie. The beginning and lead up to the events in the Hostel.
And in the Hostel, the violence is calous, graphic and it is quiet upsetting. People are paying for the opportunity to torture people to death. And as I say in my title, to think of this is disturbing, and what they do to these people is also disturbing. Its not the worst thing I've seen that really horrified me (That belongs to the ending dinner party in Hannibal), but the tortue victim who is helped after being blo-torched (The scene involves a pair of scissors) is very grotesque.
Not as depraved as many people believe, but I would recommend a sick bag

This film was not as goary as everyone I spoke to said it was. However it's not for the faint hearted. Chainsaws, scissors, blowtourches, drills all make this as BLOODY good film.
Lads out for good time with sex and drugs in Amsterdam are told of a exciting Hostel towards the Eastern end of Europe. In an Eairy village far from anywhere, one of the group goes missing, the Gore then follows...
Fantastic film in plot and visuals, 1080i is what I ran this on and had no problem, was an amazing watch.
