Ticking precision excellence

The British Indie scene becoming ever so stale and overpopulated, presumptions go that a pair of skinny jeans and OTT hairstyles is more than enough to garner label attraction and subsequent fame. Such false ideals give you your weakly warranted 15 minutes of fame (if even that), and then bargain bin you promptly belong thereafter. Foals' Antidotes, retrospectively speaking, have stood its ground ever since release, and where as initial reactions were fairly unremarkable, it's established itself as one of the more accomplished records of the latter half of the noughties. Quirky rhythmic, clock-like percussive sounds, which contributed by not just the drums but vocals and guitars, are a real treat - dare you not to move along. Skilled musicians with a refreshing viewpoint of a passing trend. Note: This Review was made by Play.com customer: MK1989 on Rakuten’s Play.com on the date shown.
Excellent and alternative

What an excellent album. The style of music is to me almost unique. It sounds little like the Klaxons, the music is upbeat and fast paced. The guitar work is excellent and the electronic sounds combine perfectly. Having now seen them live at the Orange Box i can honestly say they have become one of my favourite bands. Well worth buying but dont expect to love it first listen if you've never heard any of their work before...if you can pick up the 2CD version, with live tracks and classics Hummer its well worth the money. Superb debut from an exciting band!

This album is engaging from start to finish and upon repeated listens becomes even more rewarding (much like most excellent albums). Foals have fantastic riffs by the shed-load and have the songs to back up the fine guitar work. If you're already familiar with Baloons, Cassius and Hummer you're in for a treat as these are not the best songs in my opinion. Well worth buying. If you haven't, go buy it now and bask in this album's beauty! Can't wait for album no. 2. Note: This Review was made by Play.com customer: Hibbster on Rakuten’s Play.com on the date shown.
Varied greatness
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 20/06/2008 18:29:23
The thing with this album is that its more chilled out and relaxed compared to their live shows (which have to be seen) i actually think this album is a great one in fact one of my favourites of the year, its an album that i can chill out to in perticular i think the stand out tracks are - Red Sox Pugie - Electric Bloom - Olympic Aiwaves (and if must then cassius :/) this a great album that takes a couple of listens to fully understand it yes it may use random words but the more you listen the more it is understood. (ALSO if you can try and find the B-Sides Gold Gold Gold and Dearth cause quite frankily they deserved to be on the album) Note: This Review was made by Play.com customer: LeMoose1 on Rakuten’s Play.com on the date shown.
Highly dissapointing

When i heard Balloons and casius i thought these guys were the future. But then i bought the album. I disagree witht he review that they sound like the Klaxons; but i see where its coming from the lyrics are very unimaginative, random words put together to fit the rhif. 2 great songs on 1 very dodgy album. Excellent debut

Although the majority of the album cannot quite reach the heights of 'Balloons' and 'Cassius', it is an album of vast depth, intelligently subtle emotional commentary, and unusual levels of sophistication. Therefore, it holds limitless appeal. Whilst some complain of too much similarity between the songs, looking past the twingly guitar sections can reveal a great deal of unconventional beauty. The special edition album is a must if you don't own 'Mathletics' and 'Hummer'. Note: This Review was made by Play.com customer: prt1990 on Rakuten’s Play.com on the date shown.
Impressive!

The first I heard of this band was in late 2007 with a track called Balloons, Radio 1 championed this track and it was refreshingly different. It took me a while to find the same appreciation for Cassius however. On finally buying this CD though I am glad to say the other tracks more than live up to the promise of the more commercial forebearers. This is another example of the fantastically original music scene we are blessed with in the UK. Buy this album; you will not be disappointed. Hello Klaxons second album
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 22/04/2008 08:44:46
A major let down. It sounds exactly like the Klaxons, even the pointless and emotionally void lyrics are similar. The interesting guitar work and horn arrangements are the only thing worth listening out for. Note: This Review was made by Play.com customer: billbones on Rakuten’s Play.com on the date shown.
