An Unexpected Delight!

I never actually saw this in the cinema, but heared mixed reviews and especially complains of the 3D being blurred. At first I thought the complaints were right, as the film does take a while to get going, but then again so did Fellowship of the Rings. The comedy elements at the start grated a little, but once the band leave the Shire the film really does take hold and again you know you are back in Middle Earth again. Martin Freeman is a reverlation as Bilbo. Again the film is full of narrow escapes great creatures and a fantastic music score that echo's the original trilogy leaving goosebumps. Familiar faces come back in, including Christopher Lee's reprises his role but best of all Gollum. The locations as you would expect are beautiful. This version of the film is not perfect ( but when you look at the Lord of the Rings trilogy that did have it's faults also ) The imperfections could be put down to cuts for running time that will no doubt be re-inserted when the extended cut comes out, that again we'll all be shelling out for, but even so this first part of the Hobbit trilogy is definatly as good as what has come before and leaves us gagging for parts 2 and 3.

Now, i loved the lord of the rings trilogy.Even the extended versions improved on perfection. Then there was this.I was really looking forward to this. And for me, its 2 films in one.The first,is the first half.Pleasant at first,it becomes utterly boring, and drags along at a snails pace.So boring in fact,i found myself looking through my phone.Long, drawn out dialogues, that to be honest, didnt really needed to be there. For a good hour and a bit,i was debating on switching off. Then there was the second film - the second half.Yes,it was nothing new,Hobbits and gandalf and friends fighting orcs, but it was a welcome change of pace.Great effects, great fighting scenes,i just hope the next 2 films (1 book turned into 3 films?) arent as bloated, and that Peter Jackson doesnt over inflate dialogue, and nearly sends the audience to sleep,as the first half of this film did.

Better than the LOTR trilogy

I really enjoyed this film, I honestly think it was better than the original trilogy. For me, the film has found the right balance between adventure, action and magical charm. It neither takes itself too seriously, is too frivolous, or is preoccupied with endless battle scenes. I worried that Martin Freeman would be alll silly faces and annoying, but he was excellent and I have underrated him as an actor. I am looking forward to the follow up

this film is the phantom menace of the franchise. its boring and full of pointless and convenient scenes. Just hope the trilogy gets better from here on in.

The film itself is very enjoyable. A solid 4 stars. The reason I have given it three stars is because certain scenes appear blurry. The crisp blu ray effect is lost as the higher 48fps causes the dramatic shots of scenery to become unclear. So in order to make the film a better 3D experience at the cinema it has become a worse experience for those not watching it in 3D. It is a problem that needs to be addressed and not just blown over by Jackson.

Another awesome middle earth movie

In my opinion, the lord of the rings movies are the best movies ever made, and whilst this is not as deep or moving,it still is leagues above other fantasy movies, and featured much more action than i expected.
The picture is 10/10 as is the sound
