An extraordinary movie about an extraordinary man, the highly acclaimed and award winning Chopper is the boldest and grittiest Australian film in decades.
Brimming with dangerous excitement and stunning innovation, the sensational debut of rock video director Andrew Dominik is an exhilarating sharp shock to the system revealing the no-holds-barred story of the notorious Oz criminal Mark 'Chopper' Read.
Told in flashback as Read serves one of his many prisons sentences, this extreme biography charts the brutal carnage and wicked sense of humour of a man who supposedly committed nineteen vicious murders and got away with it. Mixing startling facts from his nine best-selling books, including 'How To Shoot Friends and Influence People,' with stylish pulp fiction to paint an astonishing portrait of a larger-than-life legend, Chopper is funny, fascinating and frightening and features a show-stopping central performance from Eric Bana, Australia's top stand-up comedian.

What a great film.
After watching it the other day I realised that I had seen parts it before, many years back. I'm glad I got round to purchasing and viewing it because it really is a great film that Andrew Dominik has put together.
The main actor is brilliant and fits the character requirements really, really well. He is such a good actor to watch during this movie and I believe that it was his first film?
Based on a true story, you get to find out what went down, although they do exaggerate and add parts, which is fair enough because they're making a movie.
It's action packed, and I'm sure some parts will make you look away. I loved it and I think it's certainly worthy of a place in people's DVD collections.
For the current price, you're getting a great film.

i've watched this afew times over the years, I remember that scene when chopper gets stabbed about 20 times and he doesn't even drop to the floor, the film has its moments, like when he cuts off his ear or was it ears so he can move blocks.
for this price i'd defo buy it if i didn't already have it.

keeps you wondering why this guy is so popular

Not a major movie, but certainly one that gives you some thought!
This chopper really is an over the top narcissistic sociopath: The bad guy who thinks he's the good guy that everybody is waiting for. Speaking of an ego... This guy certainly has one. At the core he's the one to pitty: No brains, no gains, ... A loser in fact.
But somehow he managed to become a real hero in australia, due to his bestselling books. Strange.....
The performance of eric bana as chopper is stunning, what a transformation he's gone through: He doubled his weight i guess.

ERIC BANA SHOWS OFF HIS CHOPPER!
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 14/07/2009 08:31:13
This is a good fact related Drama from Down Under. Eric Bana's amazing portayal of the infamouse inmate, and although a low budget film, the movie is well directed, and Eric Bana give a powerhouse performance as Chopper. The movie starts well, but some how looses it's way in the middle, but keeps you watching due to Bana's amazing performance. Both funny as it is violent, Chopper is not quite the film it should have been, but at this price, it still deserves to be an essential purchace, even if it's only to see Eric Bana's star making turn.

One thing I can agree with all the other reviewers on is that Eric Bana's performance is 5 star, however I did not feel the film deserved a 5 star because it wasn't THAT good...don't get me wrong, it is based on a true story and is gripping to say the least, it's an interesting account of Mark Chopper Reid and is well worth a watch, just wouldn't go overboard and rate it a 5 star like everyone else...
