Having listened constantly to Crossfire when it was previewed on Brandon's website I couldn't wait to get this and I wasn't disappointed. His lyrics are sweet and honest and the variation of style makes each song stand out.Do buy the deluxe edition- the extra tracks are just as good as the main ones. I saw him live in Manchester and his talent is amazing, he doesn't need the rest of the Killers- bring on the next solo album!

A Solid Record

Written from a neutral point of view as I am a fan on of the Killers but far from obsessed with them.
This as a stand alone project is well worth a listen. In all honesty only 2 or 3 songs will jump out on the first listen and one of them will more than likely be "Crossfire". But put time in and a couple of play throughs and the album comes into its own. Personally two of the best tracks of the album are "The clock was tickin" and "Jacksonville" so I'd go for the deluxe edition. Some great songwriting on show with great imagery and even the odd story told. The man has a distinctive voice as ever and being "his" album it really does take centre stage and deliver. Worth a buy but be patient as its not an immediate masterpiece. A solid 4/5 all in all though.

When I first heard that Brandon Flowers was releasing a solo effort, i was expecting a sort of "Killers" lite. Thankfully I could not have been more wrong. This album is nothing short of brilliant. I can't stop playing it. From the wonderful pop of "Only the Young" through the driving "Crossfire" , the sombre magnificence of "On the Floor" and the country twang of "The Clock was Tickin" every track is a gem. The only thing I hope.is that this doesn't signal the end of "The Killers" that would be a shame.

An excellent piece, just put it on and mellow in some lovely lyrics and music. The 4 extra tracks are worth the extra pennies. A very good effort for a first solo album.

It's just as catchy as the Killers, and the 4 extra tracks don't disappoint, if your thinking of buying this... take it from me and the other reviews, it's a great album

The album would really fit comfortably in an American road-trip scene, blasting out these gems from your car speakers.
Flamingo takes a few listens on repeat to get used to, as some songs are a mish-mash of country and modern rock, something Flowers never incorporated in any Killers album before.
Personally, I think this is completely different to anything The Killers have done, with the only exception that it's written honestly like any Killers album.
Some songs sound over-produced, which is the only reason why this album gets 4/5 from me. Daniel Lanois' input gives a contemporary U2-esque vibe to the album, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Flowers writes very maturely; including lots of metaphors and meaning in every song, with the added sparkle of his old-school synth, bringing a touch of Hot Fuss into the album!
I do personally prefer all of The Killers' albums to this solo album, but my mind could change after a few more listens.
It's a brilliant effort nonetheless!
Recommended songs are Swallow It, Magdalena, Jilted Lovers & Broken Hearts and bonus song Right Behind You.

An Unbelievably Great Album, Through And Through

This album just goes from outstanding track to outstanding track. A truly wonderful creation from a wonderful singer. A lot has been said about Brandon Flowers singing ability, and he needed to prove those doubters wrong to make this work and he certainly did, and then some! If this were a Killers album i'd say it would be their best yet, just squeezing in ahead of Hot Fuss, for me anyway.

the album is top quality. up to the usual killers standard but some seem a bit more country which gives it a noticable kick. Deffinately worth paying the extra for the deluxe version as the bonus tracks are very good.

Have to say it is a very good solo album! Was originally going to be the next 'Killers'album but other band members decided to take a long over due break during the early stages of this album but 'Brandon Flowers' decided to release this work as solo album!
This is so much better than the 'Killers' last album with some very good strong tracks, 'Welcome to fab Las Vegas' 'Only the young' 'Hard enough' 'Jilted Lovers....' & 'Crossfire' are classic 'Killer's type tracks whilst the rest of the album varies from Country to 80's electronic driven tracks aswell as some ballads.
It is an album to play often again & again as from each play it definatley gets better!
Other great tracks that does grow on you eventually are..
'The clock was tickin'' - Sounds like an old Lou Reed song 'Swallow it' 'Right behind you' & 'Jacksonville' - sounds very much like the 'Pet shop boys'
All in all a top album and so much better than expected, well done Brandon!!
