not their best album
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 24/11/2011 01:09:02
From a band in my mind was the best band on the planet.....well they were at least one of them. Making some amazing songs and played amazingly, it is inevitable that at least one of their albums would nbot be in the same league as the others. But in saying all this, this is not a bad album as someone else had said, I think it was all about where Freddie's mind was at the time and he wanted to try something different.
But all in all out of al the tracks I really like"Action this day", "Under Pressure" and "Cool cat", but in all honesty I do not care much for the other tracks, which is unlike me for a Queen album.
Also has to be pointed out, I liked these re releases, some remasters they ruin the albums, but no no no, not this time,I can hear quite a difference from the older CDs. But I do disagree about putting the live tracks, as if I want to listen to live I would prefer to hear a Queen live album if I was in the mood, so those tracks are no good to me separate from the rest of the concert, I am not into hearing part of a concert at all.
I like this album for a change but definitely not my favourite Queen album, as another person said, "A night at the opera" is vastly superior to this and has such diversity, and you can clearly hear the cleverness of the band on that album, but like I said this album is good for a change.

Under pressure the title of the best track on this album and it some's everything. No matter what anyone says this is the album that alienated Queen fans and almost finished the group off. After the success of Another one bites the dust, Mercury and Deacon, wanted to investigate the R and B and disco sounds of the time, however as Roger Taylor said,in the recent documentary on Queen on BBC2, the record was like entering a Gay club, and that was not the sound that he and May wanted to make. The tracks like Body language and Back chat are just not classic queen in anyway shape or form. The sale of this album were under half a normal Queen album, which goes some way of showing how much it upset fans (me included)As for the extra disc considering there is a version of Cool Cat with David Bowie singing, and there are also rockier versions of many of the track, they would have made the extra disc something special, also it may have helped changed many peoples minds about this album. If your a massive fan you may buy this record to add to your collection, personally it was a relief when the Works came along a couple of years later and restored queen to there rightful place. Seriously how anyone can give this five stars is like saying its as good as A Night of the Opera, and it is not.

A review from someone who has actually heard the album

this album is a great one, but is probably not for heavy rockers but for a more of a r n b/pop audience, just because they decided to have a change in sound doesnt make it a bad album, in fact its one of my favorite queen albums, it contains great songs such as under pressure, action this day, las parablas de amor, staying power and more. that being said i love every song on this album. so it isnt a bad album its just ahead of its time
