In the early 21st century, teenage girls between the ages of 15 and 17 begin dying all over the world. Shortly before they die, the girls succumb to NDH (Near Death Happiness), a "pre-death" state of absolute bliss and joy. Once dead, girls come back as a flesh-eating zombie nicknamed "Stacy". The world is in chaos. Countries suffer from famine, war, and zero-population growth because of this teenage death epidemic. To keep the zombies from returning and eating innocent people, families are urged to kill their daughters before they are allowed to die by this mysterious disease (chopping them up and leaving them in garbage bags for government-sanctioned pick-up).
Based on the popular Japanese novel by Kenji Otsuki, Stacy is a bloodbath of extreme gore effects and comedy with elements of Resident Evil and George A. Romer's classic Day of the Dead.

A Zombie's Love

Stacy is a low budget slasher zombie gore movie from, yes you guessed it, Japan!
It's filmed on quite a tight budget and it's obvious in many aspects of the film. I'd say a good 70% of the budget was spent on fake blood and special effects for the gruesome and gore filled scenes.
I wouldn't really class this as a horror movie, there's not many scenes where you'll feel scared or feel the need to hide behind the sofa. But there are a lot of scenes where you'll probably want to cover your eyes because of the obscene amount of blood.
There are some fairly well known actors in this movie, at least two of them have appeared in Takashi Miike movies. And despite being a cheap movie the acting is of a decent standard, apart from the zombie's over the top motions (most likely for comic effect) the performances are generally solid.
The directing is of a good standard, it looks cheap because of the equipment but the actual production in itself is of a good quality.
The story is fairly basic but there's a lot of deeper thoughts going on. There are multiple main characters in this movie and the action doesn't favour a particular person. In the end the story wraps up nicely bringing all the characters together and showing you their link...quite a smart bit of writing. Along with this there's a deeper more metaphorical emotion going on, overall quite a strong story.
Overall: Stacy is a good movie, it's not going to have you screaming in fear but it'll probably have you vomitting from some of the truly gruesome and horrific scenes. It's one of those movies which can be classed as a Cult Classic, it's never going to pull in the big crowds or win oscars but it's a movie you would happily say you own for all the wrong reasons.
It's at a good price, I recommend you gore and cult movie fans get a copy of this fast.
