Good for Patton Fans
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 19/07/2010 10:57:13
Mike Patton has done a superb job on reworking these songs and adding his own unique twist to the music.
Not usually my type of music, but I am a big Patton fan and this is definitely another bow in his string and a good showcase of how diverse his talent is.
If you have the version downloaded that features the Metropile Orchestra, this version is still worth buying as it is a different orchestra playing and therefore all the songs have a different feel and flavour from the Metropile version (which is still good). Plus any music that you download that you really like, you should always buy the original to help support the artists.
What would top this set of is if they release a DVD version of the performance with any of the featured orchestras. A version was available for online playback, so they do have it documented on broadcast quality video. If they did they would have at least 1 guaranteed sale from me.

Certainly not Hard Rock/Metal?!?

As a massive fan of Mike Patton and a bit of a sad collector of pretty much everything he has done, this isn't his best musical release. Although i can definitely appreciate its qualities and did enjoy it (track 6 in particular!), 50's and 60's Italian pop hits are not my cup of tea - but you can't fault his willingness to experiment.
He is an amazing frontman and has one of the best voices you will ever hear - not many rock/metal frontmen can boast the amazing singing voice he displays on albums such as this (check out Loveage or Kaada/Patton for other great albums sampling the extent of his awesome singing talent).
But the main reason for throwing in my thoughts was more of a heads up - its listed in the Hard Rock/Metal section on this site. It couldnt be any further from that genre! l would only recommend this to an avid Patton fan or a fan of 50's and 60's Italian cheese!

Mike Patton strikes again

What can be said about this crazy, crazy album? Only mike patton could record a cd of italian songs from the '50-60s with a big band and get away with it. What we get here is a deeply enjoyable album, with mike playing the crooner with such remarkable results you'd think his surname were buble - actually, his reinterpretation of these classics is so rich in personality you will easily understand who is just a copycat and who is a true genius between the two of them.
Mike doesn't just sing, he gives new life to the songs and he does so while having a whole lot of fun - and it clearly shows. Having said of mike's incredible performance, i must add that production is absolutely top notch, with bass that will blow your speakers off, as is musicianship. The repertoire is excellent as all the songs are very good and fun to listen to. Only problem is its short duration, but it seems there's also a live dvd coming out soon with a longer tracklist, so that would close the circle.
So, in short, if you like the twisted genius that is mike patton you need to but this one. Not only it is his best vocal performance yet, it's also in perfect patton-style even if sounding really accessible for once. If you're italian you must have this in your collection: What better way to show off your musical knowledge to your friends than making them listen to italian classics sung by a californian with an as-goos-as-it-can-get pronunciation? If you like frank sinatra and the likes, you might just discover a whole new world. If you just like good music, you definitely have to give this a try, chances are you will love it.
