When Slade embarked upon their one and only movie in 1974, fans and critics alike were expecting something akin to a Glam rock update of The Beatles `A Hard Days Night, released a decade earlier. After all, in the dark days of a Britain beset by strikes, power cuts and a collective musical identity crisis, Slade were the ultimate good time band: irreverent, loud and armed with a terrific set of singalong stompers.
A new print of Flame, digitally restored and presented in it's original Cinemascope aspect ratio
Soundtrack CD, widely regarded as their finest, most varied recording, remastered for optimum sound quality
A new documentary featurette on the making of the movie including interviews with all four band members, director Richard Loncraine and co-star Tom Conti
Deluxe packaging includes 16 page colour booklet, which features an informative essay by Slade aficionado Chris Ingham, related memorabilia plus rare and previously unseen photos with revealing commentary from Jim Lea

A GREAT movie. Very accurate, believable and gritty for its day (1974). The band act really well considering they'd never acted before this film etc. As said in one of the other reviews, an EXCELLENT soundtrack too; the CD is a great bonus and may well surprise people that haven't heard it - some truly classic tracks.
I'd definitely recommend this DVD (CD).

A classic 70's music movie. Slade act well - seeing that none of them are classically trained actors. The soundtrack is excellent. Well worth a purchase.

I don't think you have to be a Slade fan to appreciate this movie,it's not the most powefull rock movie around ,but it is special ,as Noddy says in the featurette, this wasn't the story of Slade but, some Slade fans became confused,it is the story of 'Flame' ,their rise and fall and the dodgy world of unscrupulous managers who care only for making a fast buck and not the bands creativity,it's a compilation of things that happened to other bands but, the lads personality's shine through. This is a nice little package of DVD and soundtrack CD and one i am glad to own,i had not seen this movie for some years and songs like 'Far far away' and 'How does it feel' are just the icing on the cake.

Thirty years ago, this movie was rated as one of the best rock films ever made by Barry Norman and other critics alike. Now remastered, this dark gritty story of how a band were taken but then manipulated by the seedy music industry is still as powerful as ever. Set in the industrial heartland of England, Flame is a truly excellent film in that it leaves you with a sense of how good musicians are marketed purely for their commercial value (and the hangers-on and dodgy agents want their slice), then considered as ready to be discarded.
Noddy, Jim, Don and Dave all do a fine job, and the movie is as moving now as when it was first realeased.
The DVD box set is excellently packaged, and the featurette interviews of all four members of Slade is, to me, worth the money itself. Add to that the remastered CD of the Slade In Flame album, which include the singles How Does It Feel? and Far Far Away, and you have a brilliant value-for-money bit of Slade media to keep.
Do buy it, watch it, and treasure it.
