Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is a cocky, rookie race car. Speeding on his way to a big race, he crashes into Radiator Springs, destroying lots of the inhabitants' belongings!
In order to make up for what he did, the raucous roadster is sentenced to community service. Though he will do anything to get away from the work, McQueen must learn to respect and bond with the Radiator Springs inhabitants in order to get out of the town and back on the racetrack...
After taking moviegoers magically into the realm of toys, bugs, monsters, fish, and superheroes, the masterful storytellers and technical wizards at Pixar Animation Studios (The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc.), and Academy Award-winning director John Lasseter (Toy Story, A Bug's Life), hit the road with a fast-paced comedy adventure set inside the world of cars. Fuelled with plenty of humour, action, heartfelt drama and amazing new technical feats, Cars is a high octane delight for moviegoers of all ages.

It's Still Streets Ahead!

Five years after it's release I have managed to get around to watching this movie, mostly due to the release of the sequel.
It all looks incredible, is technically flawless and oozes charm. But if judged against Pixar,s previous six features, Cars wouldn't trouble the podium. Like Michael Schumacher, the Toy Story team have spent so long leading the pack that rivals have edged up behind. Indeed unheard of in previous years there are now other summer toons which matched Pixar's fuel injected foray into computerised comedy.
That said, the studio's fish out of water scenario, propped up by four wheel puns, remains choice anthropomorphic fodder. A stellar cast (Owen Wilson, Paul Newman) and the thrill of the opening stadium race add to the story's timely reminder to slow down and take it easy. What crumples Cars, however, is its overriding concept, a world in which every inhabitant comes with an MOT. Where are the people? The animals? The roadkill? And who produces the gas that John Lasseter's chrome creations guzzle with such blatant disregard for the environment? The extra features are great while new animated shorts Mater And The Ghostlight (featuring Cars' rusty tow-truck) and the hilarious One Man Band (an egotistical street performer meets his match) both illustrate Pixar at their creative peak. The same can't be said of the feature, maybe, but let's not lose sight of one simple fact next to the 2011 sequel Cars 2 this original is still streets ahead.

As a high-def translation, this is simply jaw-dropping, and every subsequent spin is like a new viewing.
Fantastic renditions, beautiful soundtrack (Our Town is astounding!), a sad story and a great humane finish!
The extras on the disc are also great...well worth seeing.
I think that this is without any doubt the best blu-ray I have ever seen.

Blu-ray quality has been especially good for Pixar films. I have seen this is Toy Story 1 & 2 and now also Cars.
I will be looking to extend my collection.
Film overall great to watch with the family. More of a boy film when it comes to the racing but girls when its involved in a love sort of story.
Ok won't say anymore than that you'll have to buy it. ^

Cars defines kids movies. My son loved this from about the age of 8 months, and he used to sing along to "Our Town" from an early age. You only have to look at all the Cars merchandise available to realise that this is one of the most popular Pixar films released.
A timeless classic, we have just got our first Blue-ray player, and will be replacing our DVD of this film with the Blue-ray version.
This is not just entertainment of the highest class, it also carrys a message that many people can learn from - coming first place doesnt always make someone a winner.

Cars is a good movie. It's not a great movie. It lacks a lot of the depth that earlier Pixar releases had and the characters, while likeable feel harder to connect with. The story itself is enjoyable but doesn't hold the same excitment as 'Monsters Inc' and 'The Incredibles'.
As a Blu-Ray disc however, this is without question, a fantastic demonstration as to what Blu-Ray can offer. The picture is vibrant and crystal clear and the sound, when played on a full surround-sound system is amazing. It was one of the first blu-rays that I bought and even now still more than holds it own with many of the more recently released films. If you're looking for a film that shows what the system can do then this is something you should seriously consider. However if you're looking for an enjoyable animated movie 'Monsters Inc' or 'Ice Age' may be a better option.

I take on board and agree to an extent that story wise it may have lacked the depth of characterisation that seperates the true greats from the also rans, but have to point out that. it's essentially a kids film, a cartoon, the fact that we adults enjoy the escapism of the pixar productions is one thing but what you cannot possibly fault this film for is its demo quality of the BD format. It is outstanding in every way. I have only ever watched the whole film through once but have palyed bits of it a hundred times when showing off the format or setting up surround modes. Great disc with great extras, 5 stars and a must have for any enthusiast. Or kid. I am 4.

A smooth ride

Although this might drop down a gear from the high standards set by previous Pixar animations, there's no denying that from a technical point of view this is one of the most astounding computer animated films ever made. Set in a world without humans but all cars, it finds a cocky NASCAR hero stranded in a hick town in the middle of the desert where he discovers how to be a better motor. So, while the script may veer towards the obvious and lacks the charm and all-out hilarity of a lot of the studio's other efforts, the real joy here lies in the amazing attention to detail and their ability to turn mechanical objects into endearing characters.
Needless to say, it looks utterly amazing on Blu-ray, the perfect format for CGI animation.

This really is a fantastic Blu Ray. It was my first buy as was recommended - what a great choice.
This looks amazing, the plot may not be great, but it is fantastic visually.
Go for it!

This is an absolutly stunning blu ray and i think youll find it hard to find better visually, the films great but not fantastic, i dont see why people rate this 5 stars, 5 stars to me means perfect in everyway.. Yes the visuals are 5 star but the film itself knocks it back to 4 stars! Still highly recomended though
