One of T.I.'s Best Albums
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 30/05/2011 22:18:14
T.I.'s fourth album "King" is one of the rappers most notable releases and rightfully so. The production on this album is great with very few weak spots and the there is a nice range of song topics and themes found throughout. T.I. himself is very entertaining throughout the album demonstrating good rhymes with great delivery and flow. Highlights on the album include "What You Know", "Top Back", "I'm Talkin' To You" & "Live In The Sky", each of these features a brilliant beat (no wonder with the likes of DJ Toomp, Mannie Fresh & Just Blaze having production credits on this), catchy but relevant hooks and entertaining verses.
There are things about "King" that bring it down for me though. For the most part it's songs with featured artists on, "I'm Straight" & "Undertaker" cover no new ground that T.I. hasn't already covered and the guests really don't add much to the final product. "Front Back" was another weak point for me, one of the few songs on here that I couldn't get into. That being said there are some good guests spots on here, Jamie Foxx`s presence on "Live In The Sky" was especially appreciated and Common drops in for a decent verse on "Goodlife". P$C & Young Dro close the album on "Bankhead" and while none of their verses are that impressive they are entertaining enough to compliment DJ Toomps great production making for a nice outro. I would say that it's the solo songs where T.I. really shines and fortunately he doesn't overcrowd this release with guests.
Overall "King" is one of T.I.'s best albums that is definitely worth checking out. It's fairly consistent throughout and there are plenty of good songs on here that should keep you entertained for a while. Weaker songs creep in occasionally such as "Get It" which comes off as a "Bring 'Em Out" knockoff but all in all it's a good album that gets a recommendation from me.

I'm not really a fan of southern hip hop but this album is excellent. The standout tracks are why you wanna and what you know.Great production and great lyrics make for a top album.

I thoroughly enjoyed this album, so many different flavours and songs yet still sticks to the raw dirty south vibe. The singles What you kow and why you wanna are unbelievable but my favourite songs are top back and ride wit me. If you like southern hip hop you will love it and any rap fan will enjoy this. Definatley T.I at his best and definatley showing why he can call himself king of the south
