CASINO ON BLU-RAY - JUST SUPERB
This is a fantastic film with a brilliant story & excellent cast if you like gangster films then this is a must for the blu-ray collection.
The transfer to blu-ray is top class the picture quality is clear & sharp & the colours are rich and deep which makes such a great film stand out.
The sound quality is very good dts 5.1 on my home cinema system so overall its a brilliant transfer it is such a shame that all modern films are'nt this good.
The extras are also good interviews with the cast, deleted scenes,& much more.
THE BEST SCENE OF THE FILM IS THE CORNFIELDS SAY NO MORE... ENJOY

"IS THIS YOUR PEN?"

This never seems to be as highly regarded as Goodfellas or Raging Bull but i think it's just as good. Again based on a true story as the mafia high a gambling expert (De Niro) to run a Las Vegas casino. With Sharon Stone on his arm and Joe Pesci as his (psychotic) henchman, what could go wrong?!!!! As usual with Scorcese films the soundtrack is also brilliant, Rolling Stones, Roxy Music, Fleetwood Mac........this just oozes class!!!

One of Scorsese's best

Casino although it is very much in the similar vein as Goodfellas, as its a mob movie, it without a doubt so much more than just that. Casino draws a vivid picture of its 3 main characters and while they are mostly unsavoury the performances from the three leads are exceptional.
Robert De Niro is superb as Ace Rothstein, who takes charge of the Tangiers casino in Las Vegas, as is Sharon Stone who plays the charming yet troubled Ginger, his wife with whom things go off the rails. But its Joe Pesci's performance that has a slight edge over the two of them, with his brutal yet surprisingly sensitive portrayal as Nicky Santoro, Ace's mob friend who is out to steal whatever he can in Vegas. In comparison Pesci's Tommy from Goodfellas, who was just a vicious relentless pyschopath, Nicky has a family, and while he is no angel, he does show that he has a heart at times, where Tommy didn't. Its one of Pesci's best performances without a doubt.
The film is nearly 3 hours long, yet it rarely ever drags too, and I always thought in a way Goodfellas ran out of steam toward the end, but Casino keeps you enthralled right up until the very end. Not to mention its also another great example of Martin Scorsese's technical skill as a film maker, and his control over the story is just flawless.
So Casino for me its without a doubt one of Scorsese's best films, it portrays unsavoury characters in a sympathetic like and takes a deeper look at the goings on of the time. Its great entertainment and utterly engrossing at the same time. If you haven't seen Casino yet, do yourself a favour and buy it now!

EPIC Mob Movie about Greed and Passion
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 13/01/2011 08:22:15
For once being compared to a Classic movie like Goodfellas has had a detrimental effect on a movie.
And that movie is CASINO, same Director, Same 2 Leads, people just seem to thing its a rehash of Goodfellas, when its so much more than that.
Even if it was or is a sequel of sorts to Goodfellas whats so wrong with that considering every other movie is a sequel to something anyway.
Anyway I regress, back to the movie itself. It is one of the most confiedent and Slickest movies made by Scorsese, he is on Top Form.
He is almost Showboating at times, with the Dazzling Visuals, Acute Camera Angles, Audacious Tracking Shots, Stunning Wardrobe, Top Notch Cinematography and Awesome Soundtrack to boot. From the Much acclaimed opening credits sequence to the very last scene. And all the memrobale scenes in between.
The Performances by De Niro and Sharon Stone are Excellent. Joe Pesci is good but repetitive.
Stone is a revelation in what was a breakout role for her as a serious actress.
But this is De Niro show all the way, and one of his last Truly Great Performances that his reputation is built on.
Its been 15 Years since Scorsese and De Niro worked on this movie and they have not worked together since, and in my opinion, De Niro has in the interim tarnished his once Legendary reputation by appearing in any old nonsense.
Thats why watching him in CASINO is such a joy, he gives one of those Cold, Measured, Cool performances without actually doing much except looking Dapper all the way through.
He is on screen for pretty much the whole 3 hours and does not put a foot wrong. A truly Mesmerising and Majestic performance.
Too good for the Oscars as he dint even get a nomination.
A Classic Gangster Movie that Well and Truly Stand Tall on it Own.

Casino is still one of the best movies that Scorsese has ever made. It's still the kind of movie that draws you in every time you watch it.
Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone are fantastic as they give a non stop raw performance.
The transfer to Blu ray is brilliant too. They've really done a good job of it along with the sound. The extras are the same as the DVD Edition but with the Blu ray you do get PIP which is worth a watch.
Overal this is a fantastic movie and one for any ones collection!!

N I thought that the Terminator 2 'Skynet Edition' was my favorite Blu Ray yet! I was actually thinking about refunding this a few days ago after hearing about how bad the quality was from others... now Im glad I didn't, in fact I say that you should always check it out for yourself because this print blew me away!

For those that haven't seen the film well I'll simply say that it is a stunning piece of work.
However, I reckon most people will want to know about the quality of the Blu-Ray transfer and if it's worth getting. The answer is simply, yes, get it. The transfer is beautifully done. You will not regret adding this to your collection even if you own it on DVD.

Excellent film, was a joy to watch again, but this time in full hi def glory!
I was really taken back by how clean and crsip the picture was, colours were vibrant and you would think this film was made in the last 3 years.
The sound is great too and i really do recommend that if you like this film, to get it on blu ray, as you will not be dissapointed by what you see.

You know the film, you know who stars in it and you know what it's about. So is it a must buy? Yes. The colours of the casino lights appear more vivid and the detail is brilliant. Check out the small part where the flash bulb on the camera goes off in slow motion! Or the scene in the desert when they meet up. A great film in it's own right, good on DVD but so much better on BR.
