The Album of the year for 2010. Totally Beautiful.

Keepers is the follow album to the Trevor Jones 2009 album Hopeland. Hopeland was the first solo album by Trevor who with musical partner Marcus Cliffe are the band Miracle Mile. Keepers follows in the overall mood of Hopeland with an acoustic based sound but this time augmented with sparse and sympathetic orchestration. Keepers continues with the Hopeland structure by introducing some tracks with spoken word poetry. Although not a concept album it does feel as if you are listening to a beautiful story.
The album opens with the spoken track 1969 which sets the scene for the albums opening song Moondust Lullaby in which Trevor sings in his fabulously clear voice with a plaintive piano backing with orchestral accompaniment. Throughout the album Trevor is helped with instrumentation from Marcus Cliffe who provides some beautiful backdrops to Trevors touching and thoughtful lyrics. The next track is My Last and Latest Chance which has a Celtic feel and some nice pedal steel sounds. I Deny is a song very much in the Miracle Mile vein with some beautiful lyrics by Trevor who writes all the music and lyrics on the album. Next up is He Could See Nothing But Shadows. This starts with a lovely piece of acoustic guitar and flows into a poetry track backed by acoustic guitar. During this track you can hear the sound of the ocean in the background a theme that comes occurs throughout. the album. As it was written in Portugal and Corsica the influences of the sea make sense and fit perfectly. I Showed You The River is another of Trevors fantastic ballads with a gorgeous piano refrain and sympathetic orchestration. As with every Miracle Mile album and Hopeland Trevors voice is beautifully clear and you can hear every word and with words so beautiful this is a must. The next track is my favourite In Your Eye flows like a river with some beautifully simple acoustic guitar organ tuned percussion and orchestration with a killer chorus. The title track Keepers is another poetry track quickly followed by Felixstowe which is a piano piece which reminds me of John Barrys brilliant score to the movie Somewhere in Time. Next comes another stunning track Fatherless Son which is just Trevor and orchestration. Its a plaintive ballad which has an uplifting feel and ebbs and flows like the sea itself. This is followed by The Heat Of Horses the next spoken piece backed by tuned percussion guitar sounds. Papillon is an acoustic ballad with some nice guitar work by Trevor. The next track is also a killer Folding Sheets is just beautiful a song which shimmers and chimes with love and simple tuned percussion and even handclaps. One of Trevors most personal songs it is also one of his most beautiful which considering some of the songs he has written is something special. Peace In The Valley is another plaintive song with some lovely simple sympathetic orchestration. The album ends with Montemaggiore, which is the final spoken word track backed with solo piano and picks up themes from the music of the album. Its the perfect end to a perfect album. Miracle Mile fans will know what to expect. Fans of Hopeland will be entranced as it expands on that albums strengths and is its more sophisticated cinematic sister.
