Feather In The Storm
Blood Red Sky
Cherry Red Girl
I'll Haunt You
Race To Be King
Poor Man's Heaven
Greed And Gold
Sound Of A Drum
Fourth album from the talented young English folk singer and his first original full-length release for EMI offshoot Relentless after their reissues of his third outing 'Freedom Fields' in 2006 and his impossibly rare debut 'The Punch Bowl' earlier in 2008. This new release sees him joined by a full band, bringing an edgy, propulsive rock vibe to his respectfully traditional compositions. Includes the singles 'Poor Man's Heaven' and 'The Hurlers'.

A superb album - lyrically as strong as previous work, musically better IMHO. Seth's voice is stronger and some of the vocal work on this album is harrowing, "Solomon Browne" in particular.
Definitely a step forward and I for one am looking forward to what comes next

Poor Man's Heaven

Keeping up his high level of quality that I've seen in the previous two albums and going to find out if the Punch Bowl is a good opener now.

Another great album from Seth

Seth Lakeman has found his niche in music, and is not going to abandon it just yet. THe continues the style he developed in Kity Jay and Freedom Fields, raw vocals, tenor guitar and violin, admirably backed by his band; brother Sean on guitar, Andy Tween on drums, and the excellent Ben Nicholls on upright bass. For me the stand out track is emotionally charged Solomon Browne, the true story of the Penlee lifeboat disaster. If you like his music this album will not disappoint

Similar to bobharvey,I heard a couple of tracks played on the local BBC radio in the West Midlands and was immediately impressed.I had heard of the name but knew little of the artist. There are intelligent lyrics with catchy tunes even on first listening.Well worth adding to your collection.

Seth previewed some of the tracks from his new album during his most recent tour, and I cannot wait for this album to arrive. Again, he focuses on legends and tales from Devon & Cornwall but brings folk music bang up to date and to a new audience.
The tracks seem to have an urgency about them that has not really featured before. Hurlers and Green & Gold stand out, as does the title track.

I just heard 'Hurlers' performed live on radio 5. I'm going to order the record simply on the strength of that performance. I am an old folky from the 60s, used to shun the rock groups even then. That performance was very much the sort of thing I have always enjoyed. Well done Lakeman, and thanks for the heads-up Mr Mayo
