The Who: 30 Years Of Maximum R&B Live (2 Discs)

My only problem is this is where is the footage from Tanglewood 1970 that was on the original 1 disc edition. The 3 songs were Heaven&hell,I cant Explain and Water.Other than that a good dvd. Note: This Review was made by Play.com customer: dunleavy on Rakuten’s Play.com on the date shown.
Classic at last re-mastered properly; the best Rock bio-pic.

Finally, perhaps the best of The Who retrospectives released after proper re-mastering. For a long time a genuine annoyance to Whooligans, the first version of this on DVD was a poor straight-from-VHS-tape conversion, and an appalling one at that. The word on this re-master is that it exceeds all our hopes. And some worthwhile bonuses. In a week that also sees the re-release of the expanded The Who Sell Out double cd, the Easter Bunny has delivered early. The original release in 1994 was a warts-and-all telling of the story, with interviews from all the main characters. You need to bear in mind that at the time relationships between all surviving members were strained, yet again. Townshend in particular, in his interviews, is scathing of the band, his colleagues and rock in general, and while genuinely insightful and funny, does not hide his contempt. He's a bit of a let down, but always interesting. Best to concentrate on the dynamite of the livee performances, which as ever are superb, hand-picked and rivetting, and leave you feeling "Why have we had to wait this long to see this stuff? What else are they hiding from us?". The Keith Moon stories are a hoot, well worth the admission price on their own. Final words; the latter period 79-82 are clearly much better than contemporary reports would have you believe. At their worst, they were only very good. While the music press would give The Stones a bit of a free ride, they wouldn't do so with The Who. Perhaps they still mean too much to too many, and so criticism is much harsher. You always really hurt the ones you love most, eh? Buy it NOW! Note: This Review was made by Play.com customer: spideybhoy on Rakuten’s Play.com on the date shown.
