DVD of the Glenshee Productions television documentary series Songbirds - the First Ladies of Irish Song profiling the music that formed the backdrop for most Irish people in the 1930s, 40s, 50s and 60s. With special focus on the female singers who first recorded the songs and brought them to Irish audiences around the world - Delia Murphy, Bridie Gallagher, Margaret Barry, Ruby Murray and Mary O'Hara. First shown on RTE TV in Autumn 2005. Each 25 minute programme includes performances of songs made famous by these women sung by the presenter Fil Campbell with special guest singers Sean Keane and Tommy Sands, and guest musicians Steve Cooney, John Sheahan, Finbar Furey and Laoise Kelly. Each programme also includes documentary footage, archive material and interviews.
