Aqualung - the song that defines Tull
Posted by Play.com Reviewer, 28/05/2013 11:58:18
I believe the title track of this album is the definitive Tull. I remember the first time I saw them live, and whilst it was a wonderful experience, all I wanted was to listen to Aqualung - they didn't let me down. However, most fans know that the sound quality on this album lets it down from 5 stars. Ian Anderson has written more complete albums than this. That said, Cross-Eyed Mary and Locomotive Breath and top songs, as is the lovely Mother Goose. A must, in spite of its flaws.

Great music, terrible sound quality - Aqualung

I'm a huge Tull fan and I relished the opportunity to update my collection with remastered/re-issued versions of their albums. For the most part, I was delighted with the re-issues of some of my favourite albums by this most unique and "English" of all the bands that came to the fore in the seventies. However, when I came to play Aqualung, I couldn't believe how quiet it was. It was like listening to the music through a wad of cotton wool. I had bought five other Tull cd's at the same time and they were all perfect. Surely, it's a very simple matter to elevate the volume to an acceptable level at the mastering stage, as was done with the other albums, especially on the most famous album of their early period. The music is, as ever, fantastic and the extra tracks are great although available on other collections. Pity about the sound quality.

Funny but you can get so used to songs being played live a certain way that they loose there appeal, this unfortunately happened to me with Aqualung and Locomotive breath (somebody get Doanne Perry off the drums he has crucified these songs on too many occasions), now add Clive Bunker or Barriemore Barlow and wow, all is forgiven and they sound great again. Listen to the originals on this album or even Bursting Out and wow the magic is back. Truly inspirational stuff

Ian Anderson has got to be one of the most underated muscians of all time, not can he sing but the variety of instruments he can play is unparalleled.

Aqualung - can I be the first to say "WOW"

This is the undisputed pundits favourite Tull album - straight from the unmistableable riff that greets the opening title track, you will enjoy this collection that escalated Tull to the top and established them as one of the altime great bands in rock history.
